  • Dr. Kari: Welcome to the Marone Pelvic Health podcast. Hi, I'm your host, Doctor Kerry Roberts. On this show, we will be discussing a variety of things regarding your pelvic health. These conversations will be a mix of education, personal experiences, and a blend of tips you can apply to have a healthier pelvis. The goal of this show is to normalize conversations around pelvic health and help women stop suffering in silence. Hello. Hello. Hello. I am so happy that you're here. I'm so happy that I am here. It's been a long time, right? It's been several months, and I decided to go ahead and jump in, get back on my podcast, get behind the mic, talk to you all, and continue to share content about your pelvis and pelvic health and how public physical therapy can help you and what things we help with. But I hate when, you know you have someone in your life and they just disappear and then they just pop back like nothing ever happened. And I don't want to be that person. So instead of just jumping right back into the content, what I wanted to do was just kind of bring you up to speed with what's going been going on with me personally, what's been going on with me professionally and business related. And then the next episode will jump back into things now that we have caught up. So where has carrie been? Where has the Marrone Pelvic health podcast been? Well, for those of you that don't know, I am 95% a solopreneur. I answer all of the phone calls. I send majority of all the emails. I speak to all of the patients. I run all of the payments. I set up everything on the back end. I do all of the scheduling. I treat all of my patients. I write all of my treatment notes. I do all of my marketing in person and email and all of that stuff. So there's a lot going on to run the business, and that's all well and good, but I could not show up for my podcast the way that I wanted to. So I decided I would put everything on ice and hold off until I could. And this is a similar type of education or feedback that I would give my patients if it's not feeling right or if it feels like it's bringing on more stress. One thing about the pelvic pelvic floor is that it's very in tune to the stresses in our lives, the stresses we carry in our body. And so sometimes for the betterment of your pelvic pelvic health, you need to pause something and for the betterment of my mental health and my just managing all of the things. I decided to put the podcast on hold until I was in a place where I could come with a fresh mindset and excited about it and be willing to talk about it and all of those great things. So I don't remember when I was last live, but I want to say it was probably spring of 2022 and, sorry, 2023. Spring 2023 is when I think I decided, you know what? We're going to stop with the podcast. I had gone back and forth with if I was going to do it weekly or bi weekly. I have since decided this is going to be a twice a month podcast until I really get things going and can be consistent with twice a week and then once that's. I'm consistent, sorry, twice a month. Once I'm consistent with twice a month, then I'll think about increasing. Once I'm consistent, then I'll think about bringing on guests. But right now I just need to, you know, low hanging fruit. Let's be consistent. Let's get some things underway so that I can be consistent and show up for you guys. So around October. October is a very special month for me personally because it's my anniversary with my husband and we usually try to do something to celebrate that. This year we did a road trip to Savannah, Georgia for several days, and then we both took the week off from work and did more or less a staycation at home for the next week. And that was wonderful. But I wish I could say that was the reason why I stopped the podcast, but it wasn't. I have been in pretty intense continuing education pretty much since the day I opened up my practice. So remember when I gave you a list of all of the things that I do to run the business and treat my patients? Well, aside from that, I have been enrolled in continuing education so I can be a better clinician, a bit, a better business owner, a better doctor. Kerry Roberts, to each and every one of you. And I started my pelvic health certification in January of 2023. And that was I bit off a whole lot more than I could chew. I asked all of the questions, how much does it cost? How long do I have to do it? What are the classes like? What's the homework like? One question I failed to ask was, what's the time commitment? And the time commitment was rather large. So that was 2023, and I took a break from pelvic health certification. In May of 2023. I switched over and got my certified pregnancy and postpartum corrective exercise specialist certification. So I worked through that all through the summer of 2023, as well as I was in a business mastermind with Doctor Nicole Cozine and her husband from July of 2023 to December of 2023. So from July to December, I was doing the business mentorship as well as the pelvic health. Not the pelvic health, I'm sorry, the pregnancy and postpartum corrective exercise specialist coursework, in addition to working this business and having a side business while I grow this business. So it was a lot on my plate. I also was just personally, it just was a lot. It was just a lot. And I just needed to take a break. So when we went on that Savannah trip, I was like, you know, I'm going to be all in and focus on, though I had just finished the corrective exercise specialist. So I said, okay, I'm done with this. I'm going to focus on this business mentorship, and I really need to lean into growing this business and do things in ways instead of just all at the same time when the idea hits me. So at the time of recording, this is May 2023. Sorry, May 2024. And I stopped the podcast in fall of 2023. So from fall 2023 till now, I was wrapping up my. My business mentorship program, which was really great. I learned a wealth of knowledge about making my business more efficient behind the scenes and just knowing how to show up for my clients. It was great. It was time well spent, money well spent, everything. Effort well spent, the whole nine yards. Well, in January of 2024, I finished. I had resumed my pelvic health certification. That certification that I said I had bit off more than I could choose. Well, I went back to that in January. So it was back at the grind of working through that certification, which entailed coursework weekly, homework weekly, commenting on classmates, homework weekly, commenting on my comments for my homework weekly, and a weekly, what do you call it? A weekly reflective post. And I did that from January till April. So that was a lot. And then in March, I went to Pittsburgh to do my final in person training to complete the pelvic health certification. That was at the. I think it was the beginning of March. And then I did my rounds for the pelvic health certification. And then in April, I did my case study, presented my case study to my classmates in the beginning of April, and then got that graded. So I wrapped up my pelvic health certification mid April. So since mid April till now, beginning of May 2024, I have not had any continuing education to do outside of running a business and treating my patients. So I've been able to kind of settle in with these last few weeks of just not having coursework to do, not feeling like I had coursework to do, not, you know, just really just focusing on my patients and my business. So it has felt really good. Now, personally, I said, my husband and I went to Savannah for our anniversary. We haven't. Well, we did a weekend trip with some friends in January. We've been doing a lot of visiting with friends and just hanging out in the springtime. Now that things are getting better, we're making plans for where we've gotten some maintenance and updates on our home. We've got some things planned for this summer. We hope to be hosting family coming in from out of town later this summer. And we could be going on one, maybe two little weekend trips with some friends, close friends. So that's what's been going on. So it's just been a lot. So I just wanted to take a minute and bring you up to speed and let you know what I've been doing behind the scenes. I oh, something else. I had another business which will probably come up in another podcast, but the other business I did online business management and operations for online businesses, and I brought one of my assistants from that business to Marone Pelvic Health. So now she helps me with my patient coordination. She helps me with faxing things to doctors and communicating with patients via email. She helps me with a lot of odds and ends behind the scenes, which feel it's been a great help to have her. And in January, I decided I needed to start being more intentional with my marketing. So at I usually try to schedule at least one networking or marketing activity a week. So let me just put this in perspective. I work this business two days a week. Sometimes I do admin on another half day, but let's just say two days a week I have another job that I work part time to pay my bills while I am growing this business. So Monday, Wednesday, Friday, I'm doing the other job. Tuesday, Thursday, I'm doing this job. And I do work this job sometimes on the weekends or sometimes on Friday afternoons. Then you know, you've got your host of activities, maintaining house, all of that stuff on the weekend. So I'm relatively busy. So with me deciding to do the marketing or the networking, I sometimes take that time out of a Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and then sometimes I take it out on a Tuesday Thursday. If I have an opening in my schedule where there's no patients scheduled. I think that that's a great use of time. So I have been marketing and or networking in person at least once a week since the beginning of February. And then something else I've been doing is I got together a group of women that are also solopreneurs like myself, or own small businesses like myself in the community that work with women's health in different avenues. Birth doulas, registered dietitians, OBS, gyns, doulas. Trying to think, just a variety of women's health support healthcare providers. And I put together my first networking event. So everybody came to my office here, and we just kind of had a vibe session, supported each other, aired some grievances, shared ideas, and that went really well. That was also in April. So. So that's something else that I've been working on behind the scenes. So lots of things being worked on behind the scenes, and now that those things behind the scenes are starting to take shape, the clients are rolling in. I've got a good routine going with my networking. I've got my assistant, Kamber, that's been helping me. Things are starting to really trek along that it felt like the perfect time to come back to your earbuds and talk about pelvic health. So that's where I've been. If you have any other questions or you just want to reach out, please do not hesitate. I am here to have all of the discussions, and I will be back in two weeks with another episode, and I'm going to talk all about Levator Ani syndrome.
